Reviews of Counterpart

Here are a few awesome reviews I have received from some awesome readers:

Amber Westman -

Counterpart by K.J. Hunter-Brown is a titillating story that sucks you immediately into the world of a young succubus.

The story follows Maya Simmons as she balances her life as a twenty year old college student and her life as a succubus. Lucky for her she has great friends, both her roommate Jamie, who does not know about her demon side and Melinda and Daniel, fellow succubus and incubus. She also struggles to balance her relationship her friend Tristan with her demon's lust for a taste of his soul.

The first time you meet Maya, she's in bed, so you quickly learn what the feel of the book is going to be and it had me hooked right from the start. Maya's character is one that I fell in love with due to her quick wit and sarcastic responses, throw in her fierce loyalty to her friends and she's somebody I'd want to be friends with.

You are quickly immersed in her world and are rewarded with some steamy, yet not over the top sex scenes (I mean, come on, the book is about a succubus...you have to have steamy sex scenes, right?!). There is immediately some build up between Maya and Tristan that keeps you turning page after page, hoping for that pay off. Tristan is a sexy, human MMA fighter, who, despite his obvious attraction for Maya, has a girlfriend. Tristan is written so well, you find yourself wishing he was real. I stood at attention with every scene he was in.

The book takes you on a trip through Maya's life as she goes to class, hangs out with her friends and feeds her demon. But when people are being killed and suddenly Tristan's life is endangered, the book takes a dark turn and Maya is forced to face some things that she'd rather not deal with.

What I really appreciated about how K.J. wrote this book, was that she kept in mind the history development behind the succubus and incubus. She, in a very clever way, introduced the history of the demons as well as Maya herself. It never once felt like it interrupted the flow of the story and it added so much depth that just aided in making me more invested in this world of demons.

The twist takes you on a really fun roller coaster ride and once I started reaching the climax of the book, I simply could not put it down and the whole thing just leaves you yearning for more!

Becky (Book Bite Reviews) -

I absolutely loved this book! The entire story line was fresh and fascinating. It is a long book page number wise, but it is still a very quick read in terms of how gripping it is. I think the sex scenes were done extremely well. I never felt like I was reading a porno or that it went too far in details. It was tastefully done, but still thrilling. The end was perfect, and the POV chapter by Tristan is a complete cliff hanger. I need to know more immediately. Definitely a great read, I am so happy I got the chance to review it and I am so happy I enjoyed the read so much. I highly recommend picking this book up!

Heather (Redheaded Bookworm) -

I really liked all the characters in this book! I fell in love with Maya and Tristen right away. How could you not? Maya is spunky and Tristen is a sexy MMA fighter. You can feel the chemistry between them immediately. Maya is in love with Tristen, but can't act on it because she is a succubus. Tristen is in love with her too and doesn't understand why Maya can act like she cares for him but is unwilling to let their relationship go any farther than friendship. Tristen decides since he can't have Maya, he'll begin a relationship with Tori and keep the friendship with Maya. Can he have both?

Melinda and Daniel are Maya's friends. Melinda is also a succubus and Daniel is an incubus. You can feel the bond between the characters. Ethan, enters the picture late. He is very mysterious and will only let the gang get so close. Lots of intrigue and mystery in this book. I loved it. And the twist in the epilogue? WTH? I can't wait to find out what happens next!!!

Thank you all for your amazing reviews, keep them coming!!!!

COUNTERPART IS NOW LIVE ON AMAZON!!

Yay, let's party! Hahha. So yes, you read the title right, COUNTERPART IS NOW LIVE ON AMAZON!

So, after all the past months, my first baby (yes, these books are my children until I have real ones) is now out into the wild (yes, I did just say that) and it is now ready to be put into your hands, or kindle, whatever you want to refer it to.

So before I post the link on where to buy it, I'll first say that there will be a blog tour going on from July 1 - 12. So if anyone is interested in joining that, all you have to do is fill out this little form here.

For twenty year old Maya Simmons, being a succubus wasn't much of a worry. It was when she needed to fulfill the demon inside her that annoyed her. The lifestyle of drugs, alcohol and sex wasn't one she bragged about, especially to the one guy she knew she could never have, Tristan James.

Much of Maya's college life consisted of flirting with Tristan, seeing Tristan, watching Tristan, but never once did she ever attempt to taste the empowering energy that consisted inside him. She wouldn't dare. It almost helped that he had a girlfriend.

But when a threat of Tristan's life comes into play, and a rogue succubus is out to kill, Maya must play detective with her fellow succubus and incubus, Melinda and Daniel, before it's too late. Not only does she need to find out who's killing people, but Maya needs to make sure no one finds out, especially Tristan, and especially the SIA.

Sometimes, secrets become too much to handle. And the one thing Maya always wanted may be within more reach than she thought.

But it could be too late, because the clock's ticking and the heartbeat's slowing.

COUNTERPART is exclusively only available on kindle for right now. When the ebook is available, I'll get the word out.

Book Blurb:
The world ended on a Thursday.
In less than three days, the world succumbed to a pestilence that decimated the living. In its place rose a new species: vicious, gruesome, wandering plague monsters with an insatiable hunger for the living. There is no shelter. No government. In this new world, you’re either a survivor or a victim.
Still in her twenties, Cash has seen thousands die, only to walk again. An office worker with few survival skills, she teams up with Clutch, a grizzled big rig driver with PTSD. Together, they fight through the nine circles of hell, with nothing but Clutch’s military experience and Cash’s belief that humanity is not yet lost. As they fight to survive in the zombie inferno, they quickly discover that nowhere is safe from the undead… or the living.
This is the beginning after the end.
100 Days in Deadland is a journey through “Dante’s Inferno,” the first poem in Dante Alighieri's classic tale Divine Comedy… zombie apocalypse style!

Random teaser from WIP

This is a New Adult Contemporary Romance that I have scheduled to release within the next few months.

I remained seated, watching as person after person came up. I saw Gavin, Austin & Carter sitting a few seats back, each holding their own sort of facade. They were majority of the people that Damian kept close to him. That was just how it was. Damian didn't like too much friends, he preferred a small amount that were reliable, truthful and honest people. Not a huge amount of traitors.
I was different. I wasn't a social person, so my list of friends was practically nothing. I mingled with his... Well, not all. I hardly hanged out with Gavin and Carter. Austin? Yes.
But there was someone else within this little group of friends.
And he was here, standing like he a had right to be in this room.
Logan Lockhart.
The reason we're at this funeral.

Hope you liked it!

Liebster Award

First of all, I'd like to thank https://twitter.com/LemurianGoddess for this nomination! (:

How it works:
- I list 11 random facts about myself.
- I will answer the 11 questions asked of me by the person who nominated me.
- I will then nominate my 11 picks for the award along with my 11 questions for them to answer when they post a response.
- If you’re nominated, your name/link will appear at the bottom of this post along with your questions. Follow the same format; paste the award badge to your blog, give us 11 random facts about yourself, answer my 11 questions, and choose your nominees…but you cannot nominate the blog who nominated you.

So first off, 11 facts about me:
1. I was born in the 90's - so yes, I'm in that generation where Pokemon and Play Station were the thing. (I still have the first Play Station sitting in my room.)
2. I procrastinate a lot, like a whole lot. It's bad, and I'm still finding it hard to get out of it.
3. I still have teddy bears from when I was a child.
4. When I'm writing, I can't write around people. It's something I can't do. I have to be in my own secluded place or in a room - by myself.
5. I'm probably going to be forever alone because of the last fact. (Hahha.)
6. I'm probably the worst neighbor ever. I love music, so it's always playing really loud. (Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm the worst neighbor, but hey, at least I don't break their windows, right?)
7. I can watch Science Fiction movies for the rest of my life.
8. The beach and practically being outside during the sunset is my favorite time of the day.
9. I have one tattoo on my shoulder that reads "Whanau" - which means "Family" in my country.
10. I have no pets, but I've had two - both sadly passed away. I plan on getting on dog, and no one shall stop me.
11. I'm half European and half Maori. (The two main nationalities of New Zealand)

Phew. Now, onto the questions asked by Desiree!

What is your favorite genre?

My favorite genre would have to be a cross between Paranormal and Contemporary. I especially love realistic fiction - ones that make you say: Oh, I totally know how she (the protagonist) feels. Been through that.

What was your favorite year?

I don't have a specific favorite year, but if I could go back to my childhood ones, just for like a day, I would. But right now, I have a favorite thing about every year.

What is your favorite book?

My favorite book at the moment... Hmm. At the moment, it would have to be my book... (Is that cheating or? Hahha.)

If you could live in any era, what would it be and why?

I love the future, so if I could have the chance to experience the era it will be in... maybe, 2140 - sign me up!

What would you do if you won a million dollars?

Round the world trip anyone? ;)

If you could fix one problem with humanity, what would it be?

The economy.

What was your favorite class in school?

Math, funnily enough because I was really good at it. (Genetics thing.)

What is your biggest pet peeve?

I have a lot of pet peeves, but one would have to be snoring. I know people can't help it, but it still annoys me.

What is your favorite comfort food?

Easy question. Chocolate. All the way.

If you had the choice to pick between being blind or being deaf, which would you choose and why?

I've actually known people who are deaf or blind, and the way they explain the feeling is always something that seemed intriguing  If I had to choose one, I'd go for blind - only because I could still hear the birds tweeting, and the ocean waves crash against the rocks.

What is your favorite color?

Blue. I love all types of blue.

I'm still new at blogging, so I can't really nominate anyone. But thank you, Desiree for nominating me!

IMPORTANT COUNTERPART UPDATE

Hey guys, so a few pieces of news here.

The first one, which is most important is about COUNTERPART. I know I said it will be released in February but due to some changes, I have to push that back a couple of months. Don't worry, it's still coming out, just not as soon as I would like.

What does that mean for the giveaway? The winners will be notified via email on their options. There is still something to win, but at a later time.

Another piece of news, is that I'm currently working on a New Adult Contemporary, which is getting me all giddy just thinking about it. I plan for this one to come out within the next few months, so keep an eye out for that.

And, that's about all I have for you guys right now.

Just keep watching here for more updates on my projects and their releases. ;)
